POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineering Manager (SEM) with extensive experience in systems engineering across the lifecycle with an emphasis on requirements engineering and management of complex systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in the oil and gas (O&G) industry with domain knowledge in a particular sector Upstream, Downstream, Midstream. While specific O&G experience is not required the candidate will be expected to quickly learn the industry and related systems, interfaces, and dynamic interactions.

The SEM will work alongside other STRATA Architects, Engineers, and Project Manager as well as customer subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure systems engineering deliverables are completed within the project schedule. The SEM will be expected to take a key leadership role helping to guide and mentor internal and STRATA employees as well as customer SMEs in systems engineering best practices. The SEM will be expected to take a predictive and proactive approach in identifying and mitigating risks and conflicts. The SEM will be among the key leaders in the organization driving strategic growth, setting direction, and ensuring the overall success of the organization.

The SEM will be expected to lead a team junior systems engineers to execute the requirements engineering process and complete assigned tasks on schedule and uphold to the quality metrics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead team junior systems engineers working on requirements engineering, requirements analysis, and requirements management activities
  • Provide day to day management oversight of the systems engineering team
  • Regularly meet with systems engineering team face to face
  • Mentor, Train and Coach systems engineers to perform their tasks of rewriting technical requirements, assigning metadata, in the requirements management tool
  • Support Systems Engineering team in analyzing complex sets of technical requirements documents of varying levels of quality to recommend changes in alignment with the SEMP
  • Peer review systems engineers deliverables to uphold quality and consistency metrics
  • Lead team to analyze and restructure existing customer requirements to be compliant with INCOSE standards guidelines
  • Lead teams of Systems Engineers to collaboratively work with customer SMEs to revolutionize customer technical documents, SW tools and processes.
  • Coordinate with Scrum Master on resources allocation, availability, deliverables, and priorities
  • Take ownership of the Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP)
  • Hold the systems engineering team to high quality standards per the Document Quality Assurance (DQA)
  • Enforce the requirements engineering process outline in the SEMP and make necessary performance improvements
  • Lead reoccurring retrospective and lessons learned sessions to improve the performance of the systems engineering team
  • Analyze performance of systems engineering team and provide various quality and consistency metrics, trends, forecasts, staffing needs to meet customer demand
  • Lead team of systems engineers to adhere to tight project deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize continuous and varying customer requests
  • Proactively diffuse various customer situations that arise with deliverables
  • Proactively step in and pick up the slack if systems engineering team has delays in producing deliverables or lacking quality.
  • Regularly meet with customer SMEs face to face to build relationships
  • Take ownership of weekly status briefings to customer leadership
  • Own particularly challenging sets of customer requirements documents and execute the requirements engineering process along side the systems engineers
  • Coordinate with the SMEs and Architects to ensure the customer Technical Disciple plan for the requirements engineering phase is executed per the plan

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering field
  • Master’s degree in systems engineering
  • PMI PMP or Agile Certification
  • INCOSE CSEP Certification
  • 10 to 15 years’ engineering experience
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience leading teams (both system engineers as well as non-system engineers)
  • 10 years’ experience in working on complex systems development
  • 10 years’ experience with project and product life cycle in development of complex systems
  • 5 years’ experience with system architectures and associated metadata
  • 5 years’ experience in requirements engineering and management
  • 5 years’ experience with systems or sub systems decomposition and specifications
  • 5 years’ experience with requirements management tools and traceability

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in engineering field or MBA
  • Experience with model based systems engineering (MBSE)
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban)
  • Experience as Administrator of Requirements Management Tools (e.g., DNG, Jama, Codebeamer, Polarian)
  • Experience with Requirements Quality tools (QVScribe, Reuse Co, Requirements Advisor)
  • Developing data visualizations (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Developing Project Plans and schedules, critical path, resources allocation
  • Experience in consulting role with various stakeholders and conflicting priorities
  • Applying INCOSE standards (NRM, GtWR, SE Handbook)
  • Applying requirements templates (e.g., EARS, GtWR)
  • Interpreting and conforming to industry standards (e.g., API, ISO, ASME, SAE)

LOCATION

  • This position is located in Spring, TX
  • Candidate will be able to work a hybrid schedule (remote and in office 3-4 days a week)
